CONNACHT GOLD AND SLIGO LGFA CONTINUE THEIR PARTNERSHI­P

Sligo’s scorers were Gerard O’Kelly-Lynch (0-6, 6f ), Thomas Cawley (0-2), Michael Munnelly (0-2), Conor Hanniffy (0-1) and Joe McHugh (0-1). This Saturday Sligo host Tyrone in the competitio­n’s third round (Markievicz Park, 3pm). Tyrone are also on two losses for the opening two rounds – the Ulster county were beaten by London (2-23 to 2-12) and Derry (2-26 to 0-13).

FAIS fixtures are held on an astrotuf pitch

Two more high-profile fixtures in the FAI Schools calendar were hosted by MacSharry Park, which also serves as the Sligo-Leitrim and District Soccer League headquarte­rs.

On Monday afternoon, Mayo’s Balla Secondary

School defeated Largy College (Clones, Co. Monaghan) 4-1 in the FAI Schools Minor (U-15) ‘B’ Boys National Cup semi-final (small schools section).

The Connacht champions will take on Leinster kingpins Grange Community College (Donaghmede) in next Wednesday’s All-Ireland final. Sligo referee Keenan Deering took charge of Monday’s game at the Sligo town venue.

SLIGO Ladies Gaelic Football Associatio­n has renewed its partnershi­p with Connacht Gold, with the milk and butter brand to continue as the main sponsors of Sligo LGFA’s adult league and championsh­ips.

“Building upon an already a successful collaborat­ion, this renewed commitment aims to further support women’s Gaelic football in Sligo and beyond,” said a statement from Sligo LGFA.

“The partnershi­p between Connacht Gold and Sligo LGFA underscore­s a shared dedication to promoting sports excellence and community engagement.

Connacht representa­tives Presentati­on College Athenry. The Athenry secondary school won 6-1, with Abbie Duffy, an FAI Schools Girls U-15 internatio­nal, scoring a hat-trick. The referee for this fixture was Sligo’s Elliot McGarry.

Meanwhile, next Tuesday, April 30, the FAI Schools Minor (U-15) Boys National Cup semi-final between St Eunan’s College (Letterkenn­y) and St Joseph’s Patrician College (Galway) is scheduled for MacSharry Park’s astroturf pitch (1pm).

‘GIAT’ rugby programme at Hamilton Park

Sligo Rugby Club is hosting the ‘Give it a Try’ coaching programme. This initiative is for girls aged 10-16 and no prior rugby experience is necessary. The programme will run over eight weeks at Sligo Rugby Club in Strandhill’s Hamilton Park, starting from this coming Sunday, April 28. Seamus Hannon, National Sales Manager Aurivo, expressed his enthusiasm for the renewal of the partnershi­p between Sligo LGFA and Connacht Gold.

He stated: “We are proud to extend our partnershi­p with Sligo LGFA. Together, we are committed to empowering athletes, promoting healthy lifestyles, and strengthen­ing community bonds through the spirit of women’s Gaelic football.”

Sligo LGFA chairperso­n Martin Seery echoed Hannon’s sentiments.

Seery said: “The renewal of our partnershi­p with Connacht Gold is a testament to our shared values and mutual commitment to the advancemen­t of women’s Gaelic football. We look forward to another successful season ahead.”

As part of the renewed agreement, Aurivo, under the Connacht Gold milk and butter brand, will continue to provide vital support to Sligo LGFA, including financial backing, promotiona­l assistance as well as community initiative­s.

Lavin’s Menswear, Ballymote, will be sponsoring Sligo Handball in 2024. Lavin will provide sponsorshi­p for all juvenile and adult players that represent the county this year.
