GC Aesthetics, an Irish breast implant maker backed by tech veteran Bill Mccabe, pictured, has appointed a US project manager to spearhead its entry into the American marketplace.

The company has placed Ron Cosmas, a manager with more than 20 years of experience working with aesthetic medical device companies, at the head of its US operations.

Cosmas has worked with a number of “key partners” in the area, including Mcghan Medical, Allergan, Sientra, Keller Medical and OBP Medical. The business also appointed Mariano Garcia-valino to the board of directors. He has more than 25 years of experience in the areas of healthcare, strategy and entrepreneurship.

His appointment followed an agreement with clinical medical research organisation ICON to provide regulatory services to support an FDA approval for its breast implant products in the US.

GC’S chief executive Carlos Reis Pinto said that he was “thrilled” about the recent developments at the company.

“We are committed to advancing our products for women seeking safe, empowering breast augmentation or reconstruction solutions,” he said.

“The combination of adding aesthetic industry veteran Ron Cosmas to our team and our partnership with ICON will help us in achieving our strategy of bringing our new generation of implant technology to the US.” In August, the company secured €6.5m in cash with Mccabe’s Oyster Capital and Tony Barry of Barry’s Tea both investing. Montreux Equity Partners, another existing investor, also contributed to the fundraising round.

GC, which abandoned a planned Nasdaq IPO a number of years ago, said in its most recent accounts that it needed to raise fresh cash.
