The best... Summer splash

Think pink; forget flash orange fizz and shattering prosecco bottles. When in Provence, chic Parisians go native by drinking rippling rose with pinkgrapefruit juice. Brad and Angelina are doing it with their own gossamer-fine Chateau Miraval Cotes de Provence Rose, above, at €26.50, the first batch of which flew off the shelves in Marks & Spencer, Dundrum. Needless to say, your unworthy food critic was on hand to snaffle a bottle, with its specially etched ‘fraud-proof ’ base! So I can tell you that it’s ethereal and effervescent, with hints of spiced plum, wild violet, cherry and raspberry — Champagnelike in quality. Can’t afford Brad and Angelina’s prices? The uber urbane French sommelier of a Michelinstarred restaurant whispered in my ear that the best rose in Ireland is at Aldi. Believe me, guys, it’s fabuloso fantastic, and just €8.99. Simply called Cotes de Provence, it’s from Aldi’s Exquisite Collection, and that it is. Now you know!
