I’m such a dedicated follower of fashion that I’ve even named my children after dress lengths! Our son, Maximilian, is mostly called Maxi, and our daughter, Seren, is better known as Mini, and now we have decided we’ll call the next one (when we get around to it) Midi! What am I like?

Speaking of fashion, the big trend beauty-wise right now is lilac. It’s the new black. Nicole Richie and Ireland Baldwin have been in a purple haze, rocking lilac hair, while, backstage at Matthew Williamson, Charlotte Tilbury worked her magic on models, using rich mauve hues on their eyes. Charlotte likened the pretty pop of colour she created around the eyes to a blooming hibiscus flower.

This flattering shade makes both dark and pale skins pop. I love a lighter smoky eye for summer, and so, the new Estee Lauder Magic Smoky Powder Shadow Sticks, left, €22.50, make creating this look a cinch, as these are, basically, powder eye-shadows in a stick.

There are eight shades to choose from, and Pink Charcoal is the one I’m wearing in my photo, above. I apply it straight from the stick and then blend it with my fingers, so it’s a really quick, easy way to do eyes. Just remember to keep your foundation light and the rest of your make-up pared-back to keep the lilac looking serene rather than intense.

If you’d prefer a more subtle nod to the trend, then dip your digits in No 7 Gel Look Sweet Lilac, €9. This ultra-glossy gel-look polish gives fresh, bright colour and complete coverage in one stroke, with super shine. Or try my current ‘goof-proof ’ colour, Artdeco Art Couture nail lacquer, above, €13, in shade 790. I can apply it while balancing babies on my knees!

It’s light enough not to show up any mistakes, and has just enough of a lilac hint to look totally on trend.
