With Bernard Brogan
What did your mother make you? Traditional meals — meat, veg and loads of spuds.
What’s the first dish you ever cooked? I lived on omelettes for years. They’re so handy, and you can add ingredients to give you all the nutrients you need.
What is your comfort food? King crisps.
What is your hangover cure? Thai green curry — I make my own, as it’s so easy to make from scratch!
What do you drink? Red Bull to keep me going in work, and, other than that, lots of water.
If you could only eat three things for the rest of your life, what would they be? Potatoes — in all forms, mashed, baked, chips, sweet, and especially roast; chicken; and eggs.
How important is food to you? It’s all I think about! It has become so important in training now, and getting the right nutrients into the body; we watch it very closely.
You can go anywhere and have anything to eat with any one person. Where, what and who? Leonardo DiCaprio, on his boat in Monte Carlo, during Formula 1 weekend, with a fresh seafood platter.
What’s your favourite restaurant in Ireland? Anglers Rest, down in the Strawberry Beds. And abroad? Chicago Cut Steakhouse in Chicago — you haven’t lived until you’ve tried their steaks.
What’s your sweet treat? I’ve a weakness for jellies.
What is your guilty pleasure? A chicken-fillet roll.
What’s your signature dish? My spicy pork chop — to die for, if I do say so myself!
Are you careful about what you eat? When training, I am extremely careful, as I put on weight quickly. As they say: 85pc kitchen, 15pc gym.
What’s your perfect family meal? We run the Goal Mile on Christmas morning; then we have soup when we get back to warm us up. For dinner, it’s prawn cocktails for starters, followed by turkey and ham with stuffing and the trimmings. Followed by a nap on the couch. In that order. A
