Healy takes record from track to road
FOUR days after setting an Irish over-50 800m indoor best of 2:01.37 at the NIA in Abbotstown, Shane Healy transferred his record-breaking form to the road with a new Irish M50 time of 15:27. Finishing 13th overall of the near-1,200 finishers at the Jingle Bells event in the Phoenix Park, Healy — of the Metro St Brigid’s club — knocked four seconds off the previous best held by Pauric McKinney.
The Donore Harriers 5km saw overall victory going to Eoin Everard of Kilkenny City Harriers in 14:37. In the women’s race, Teresa Doherty, Finn Valley, had a 13-second winning advantage over new Irish junior cross-country champion Sarah Healy.
The 17-year-old Blackrock athlete, winner of both the 1500m and 3000m at last summer’s European U-18 championships, leads a strong Irish contingent in the U-20 race in Holland.
