In­dian bats­men dig in to worry Aus­tralians

IN­DIA took con­trol of the first Test against Aus­tralia with a gritty bat­ting dis­play on the third day in Ade­laide. Hav­ing taken the last three Aus­tralia wick­ets to bowl out their hosts for 235, In­dia reached 151-3 at close — for a sec­ond-in­nings lead of 166.

Chetesh­war Pu­jara, who scored 123 in the first in­nings, was twice given out to Nathan Lyon when on eight and 17, but sur­vived two re­views be­fore bat­ting for al­most three hours to fin­ish un­beaten on 40 as In­dia frus­trated Aus­tralia’s bowlers.
