Special cat Aslan is as brave as a lion

-

MY cat is called Aslan. He is very different from other cats because he only has three legs. Aslan is four years old and his birthday is on Mother’s Day.

He was born in a barn and had lots of brothers and sisters.

My brother Jack and I went with our mummy to choose him. We chose Aslan because he sprinted over to us and meowed happily when we stroked him and purred very loudly.

We decided to call him Aslan after the lion in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which is one of our favourite films.

Aslan is ginger with long fluffy fur just like a lion. He is also as brave as a lion.

Aslan is very well known in our village because he is an explorer and is the only three-legged cat in the village!

I won first prize in the village show for my picture of Aslan.

He was not born with three legs but had an awful accident when he was only two: One day he didn’t come home for his dinner (which is really unusual as he loves his food) so my mummy and brother Jack went out at night with a torch to look for him but they couldn’t find him.

The following morning we came down to breakfast and he was there with a badly broken leg.

The vet said he was very brave as his leg was broken into seven pieces. (The X-ray was very impressive.) The vet tried very hard to save his leg by fixing the bones with metal plates and rods but Aslan was too impatient and kept trying to run and jump so the metal kept breaking.

Eventually, after six months, we had to make the very difficult decision to remove his leg.

We all cried that night but Aslan made a very speedy recovery.

He can now climb, jump and even caught the naughty squirrel that dug up mummy’s bulbs.

He likes following my mummy to the village shop when she gets the bread and the paper.

When I come home from school, Aslan runs excitedly to meet me and enjoys having a tickle.

His favourite tickle spot is between his ear and neck. Aslan can do a very clever trick which is to fist bump me with his nose.

Even my daddy is proud of how brave Aslan is despite not being a big fan of cats.

Aslan is a special member of our family because he loves us and we love him. Florence Bulbulia (seven), Peopleton, Worcestershire
