The Edinburgh Fringe Show

www.edinburghfringe.thepodcastcorner.com Anyone who has ever been to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival will know what a gloriously chaotic, infuriating, bumper-pack of an event it is. So much to see, so little time to see it, and so many decisions to make around where to spend your time.

Ewan Spence does a good job of capturing the esprit de corps of the three-week-plus event — which runs until August 27 — and makes fine strategic decisions around ‘what?’ for his Bafta-nominated podcast The Edinburgh Fringe Show.

This is a daily half-hour show, a lively mix of recommendations, interviews and reviews. So, for example, there is a chance to hear from Maisie Adams, last year’s ‘So You Think You’re Funny’ winner; Melinda Hughes discussing her cabaret show Margo:

Half Woman, Half Beast, inspired by Marlene Dietrich and the louche scene of 1930s Berlin; Adele Cliff discussing a show about sheep; and director Peter Blackburn finding Katie Reddin-Clancy’s ‘Checkov’s Gun’ moment.

The Teacher’s Pet

www.theaustralian.com.au/the-teachers-pet For anyone who has been missing their fix of true crime cold cases recently, here is a particularly nasty and compelling one.

The murder of Lyn Dawson 36 years ago has never been solved, making it ripe for investigation here by the national chief correspondent of The Australian, Hedley Thomas. Dawson, a 33-year-old mother of two, vanished in 1982. Her husband, Chris, a teacher and former star footballer, was at the time in a secret relationship with one of his students. He has been a suspect but maintains his innocence.

Thomas claims to have “discovered new evidence”, and Lyn’s family believe this to be their best chance of justice.
