A weekend in Nashville

For the music, food, people, heritage and buzz, my ideal weekend is Nashville, every time.

I’d stay in East Nashville. The Airbnb offering is outstanding — 19th-Century houses with front porches out of the movies, and hosts as colourful as their flags and garden gnomes.

Friday night, I’d skip down to the Five Points area and The Treehouse Restaurant. I’d sit outside, and sample their take on tapas and cocktails.

Next, I’d have local beers in 3 Crow Bar and Mickey’s Tavern, then I’d go to Lipstick Lounge for karaoke. I’d end the night with a slice from the Five Points Pizza window. The characters loitering outside are sublime.

For Saturday brunch, it’s Marche — think European meets American cuisine in 1960s interiors. Then I’d hit Fanny’s House of Music, a music store like no other; The Hip Zipper, for original mid-Century threads; and Old Made Good, for home-made interiors brilliance.

On Saturday night, I’d swing by Mas Tacos Por Favor for the best fish tacos. Next, it’s time to don the boots and make for the Honky Tonk. Although touristy, Robert’s Western World is a highlight. Every age of person spends the night on the dance floor swapping partners!

On Sunday, forget about going home! Instead, take off to Dollywood. The Chasing Rainbows Museum — home to Dolly’s awards, costumes and artefacts is a must-do. I’d make the journey again for it alone.
