President Higgins’ inauguration today
President Michael D Higgins will be inaugurated for a second term at 6pm today in Dublin Castle after his election win last month. He was due to be sworn in this morning but the event was pushed back to enable Mr Higgins attend Armistice Day commemorations.
Before the ceremony, Mr Higgins will pause and reflect in the room in Dublin Castle where James Connolly was held before his execution. He will then make a declaration in St Patrick’s Hall in the presence of judges, politicians, and other public representatives.
