Pres­i­dent Hig­gins’ in­au­gu­ra­tion to­day

Pres­i­dent Michael D Hig­gins will be in­au­gu­rated for a sec­ond term at 6pm to­day in Dublin Cas­tle af­ter his elec­tion win last month. He was due to be sworn in this morn­ing but the event was pushed back to en­able Mr Hig­gins at­tend Ar­mistice Day com­mem­o­ra­tions.

Be­fore the cer­e­mony, Mr Hig­gins will pause and re­flect in the room in Dublin Cas­tle where James Con­nolly was held be­fore his ex­e­cu­tion. He will then make a dec­la­ra­tion in St Pa­trick’s Hall in the pres­ence of judges, politi­cians, and other pub­lic rep­re­sen­ta­tives.
