How to make Brexit worse

- EILIS O’HANLON

Just when you think Brexit can’t get any more of a shambles, the UK government (as a way of breaking the political logjam at Westminster) suggests giving Northern Ireland a veto over what happens next...

Sorry, come again? Is this the same Northern Ireland where there hasn’t been a government for two years because of a row over wood-fired boilers?

If that’s who we’re relying on to bring some much needed steadiness to the Brexit debate, then we should all probably start stocking up on tinned food and bottled water for the long haul. In fact, it might be time to write to Boris Johnson and apologise for suggesting he was the last person who should ever be allowed to have a say over what happens at the Irish Border following Britain’s departure from the EU.

Clearly there are some people more unsuited to that responsibility. People who can’t even run a place with a population smaller than Greater Dublin, for example.
