Cultivating consistent calm

-

Do you consider yourself a calm person? Do you consider yourself a person who is kind, present and grateful? These are skills that need to be cultivated and practiced. Are you the type of person who works on yourself every day, or falls to your knees in prayer only when hard times come knocking? Consistency is king in this life, and even though I didn’t want this to be the truth, as I have a history of avoidance and escapism, it simply is. Time and time again, I surprise myself at the power of living with intention and presence. We are not taught when we are young that how we show up in the world every day affects every decision and experience we have. If we were, I imagine a lot of us would live very differently. If you planted a seed and never watered it and it never had sunshine, would you expect it to grow? So why do we expect so much from ourselves and others when we don’t cultivate good habits properly? We just want to skip straight from the planting stage to the harvest. So don’t miss life because you’ve been lured into instant gratification, because what I have learnt is that to really be nourished by life, we have to digest it all. In fact, not only does most of the fun happen during the cultivation stage, but most of the learning and growth does, too.
