Much-loved Lyla always rules roost

MY PET

-

THE humans in the house refer to me as someone called Lyla, the youngest one (my favourite) calls me Pooshk occasionally… really, I don’t know where they get the staff these days.

I am a three-year-old British Shorthair, finest of all cat breeds. My grey face, lush cream coat and dazzling blue eyes get me a lot of attention, but then again why wouldn’t they?

My journey into having human servants began three years ago when my main human, Shauna, took me home from Galway to Meath. Something tells me that the bigger, male version of a human, whom she gets along quite well with didn’t know of my arrival. Of course, once he set eyes on me, like everyone else, he was in love.

When I first arrived into their home it was quite a change, I hid for a few days. Shauna was worried for me and spent a lot of time sitting in the room with me and talking to me. Of course, this was a test, an interview Name: Lyla (Queen Lyla preferably) Finest hour: Every hour is my finest Likes: Not a lot, except myself of course. However, I do like the youngest human who feeds me Dislikes: Everything, and almost everyone of sorts to see if she was cut out to be my human.

Soon though, I realised that it was quite nice to have a human when I wanted one. I now follow her around from room to room to make sure she doesn’t forget my existence, or constant need for attention.

We moved from their quiet home to another abode with another human who looks quite like Shauna, her name is ‘Mam’ apparently, and to my utter disgust, two other cats…. AND two dogs. I mean really, get me the P45s immediately.

Shauna leaves for work in the morning and I have a beautiful day lounging around the house. My favourite thing to do is to jump on top of the nearest door and terrify this ‘Mam’ lady. I also enjoy hiding and pouncing on the other cats, who, really, I could do without. I also ensure that a human servant turns the tap on for me at least 10 times a day so I can drink. Shauna comes home some hours later. She’s always very excited to see me, so I allow her to pet me for a while.

My favourite hour arrives shortly after when I lounge aloft a large white warm box, they’re never happy about this because I ‘block the heat’. I mean seriously, even with all of this thick fur they must understand how much I abhor the cold weather.

Enough about me, this is exhausting, I must go, there are dogs to torment, and I feel a thirst coming on that I must alert a servant to, until next time. Lyla Leamy, Enfield, Co Meath
