Triona’s top trends

-

Last year, ‘single-use’ was the Collins Dictionary word of the year. Not surprising really, as we begin to realise the effect that plastic is having on the environment. Will made me watch David Attenborough’s documentary Blue Planet II, and I was horrified to learn that eight million tons of plastic ends up in our oceans annually. Beauty brands such as The Body Shop and Aveda have been pioneering eco-solutions to packaging for some time now, while Mac, Kiehl’s, Origins and & Other Stories offer rewards when customers return their empties. I have started using bars of soap again, as a bar of soap takes one-fifth of the energy to produce compared to liquid soap. A bar of soap also contains fewer chemicals than liquid soap, which uses 20 times more packaging. So Drunk Elephant JuJu Bar, above, €28, is a new fave, as it’s an ultra-mild, three-in-one soap bar that deeply cleanses, subtly exfoliates and detoxifies, for a thorough yet softening, smoothing cleanse. FYI, all Drunk Elephant products avoid toxins and what the company terms the ‘Suspicious 6’ — essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical screens, fragrance/dyes and SLS. Dr Bronner’s All-One Almond Pure-Castile Bar Soap, below, €10.50, is hugely popular since Meghan Markle revealed she loves the almond scent.
