Weekender
Donal Skehan’s LA
I’ve been travelling for work quite a bit lately,
so my ideal weekend would be spent at home in LA with [my wife] Sofie, our baby Noah [18 months] and our dog, Max.
Our home is in LA’s Eagle Rock neighbourhood.
It’s become our haven since we moved over, and I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else!
Friday night would be about catching up on family time
and rustling up a nice home-cooked meal. We really enjoy making anything Asian-inspired, like my beef and mango salad, which is a hit with Noah.
The weather in LA is great, and we enjoy hikes and days out with Noah.
A perfect Saturday would be spent walking in Griffith Park — so we can bring Max, of course — viewing the beautiful LA skyline. We’d go for a bite to eat afterwards at Gjusta in Venice. We discovered this place when we first moved over, and I can’t get enough of their pastries and fresh-baked breads.
My favourite thing to do on a Saturday night
is a food tour of the Highland Park neighbourhood with some friends. Some of my favourite restaurants are in this area, and we end up discovering new places all the time. We like to finish off the night with a big glass of boba [bubble tea] for dessert!
I love a lazy Sunday,
so we would have as much of a lie-in as Noah will allow, and make a nice brunch to eat in the garden together.
