Two-step brown bread

Makes 2 loaves

You will need:

115g flour 1 tablespoon bicarbonat­e of soda 1 teaspoon salt 500g wholemeal flour Juice of half a lemon 400ml milk 115g golden syrup 25ml oil 100g mixed seeds

1 Preheat the oven to 180°C, 360°F, Gas 4. In a large bowl, combine the flour, the bicarbonat­e of soda, the salt and the wholemeal flour.

2 In a jug, add the lemon juice to the milk and allow it to curdle slightly. Then add the lemon juice and milk mixture to the dry mix in the large bowl, along with the golden syrup, the oil and the mixed seeds. Mix everything together until the mixture is smooth, with no pockets of flour remaining. Pour the bread mix into lined loaf tins and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
