Halloween such a nightmare for pets

-

Sir — As we approach October 31 and Halloween, many people won’t be thinking about Brexit at all. For owners of pets, this time of year is a nightmare.

This is a time of heartbreak, when we watch our beloved dogs and cats go hysterical with fright from the fireworks going off.

I don’t object to this ancient festival — in fact it is a joy to see the wonder in children’s faces as they roam from house to house, collecting nuts and chocolate treats. What I do object to is the fireworks — not so much the brightly lit silent ones, but the bangers. Some are more like mini explosions. The other night one went off in our vicinity and I swear I felt my windows rattle.

And I was under the impression fireworks and bonfires were illegal in this country.
