Job losses... and jobs left undone
Sir — I have been reading about the proposed closure of the Molex factory in Shannon with the loss of 450 jobs, the planned 250 redundancies at Novartis pharmaceutical plant in Cork and loss of 80 jobs at the INM printing press in City West.
My sympathy goes to the workers at those factories who will have worrying months ahead, wondering what the future holds for them in relation to paying their mortgages and rearing their families.
Compare this to the fastapproaching 1,000 days since the last sitting of Stormont. It highlights the attitude of all the politicians in the North elected to represent the people of Northern Ireland.
These politicians have been given well-paid jobs and placed in privileged positions by the electorate and they refuse to work.
The DUP and Sinn Fein have, down the years, selfishly used the assembly for their own bigoted and self-indulgent motives, ignoring the greater good of their respective communities.
I wish all those employees in danger of losing their jobs the best of luck — and urge those politicians to get back to living in the real world.
