Little Lily’s travels across the world
MY PET
HELLO, my name is Lily, I’m an 11-year-old white miniature Schnauzer and I’m a lucky dog. Let me tell you why.
My first memories are being with my brothers and sisters with our mother taking good care of us.
One day two new humans arrived — Pat and Brian. They played with all of us and then one of them said we want Lily. I was put in a nice basket which kept me warm and then put in a strange place which I later learned was called a car, and taken to my new home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Outside was the largest water bowl I had ever seen with ducks swimming on it. I tried chasing them, but they flew away. I later learned it was called a pond. Lots of friends came to see me and cuddled me — but my favourite visitor was Jean, my human Mom and Dad’s oldest daughter.
Later we moved to Florida with water everywhere and lots of sand in which I loved to play, digging and throwing sand up in the air and trying to catch it in my mouth — but that made me cough.
Then my Mom got sick and moved to another place, where they could look after her. Dad and I visited her every day but I could tell that Mom was not her usual happy self and Dad got very sad. Then we stopped visiting and
Dad told me Mom had gone to a special place called heaven. Hard to understand, but I tried to cheer Dad up as best I could, but he was finding it hard to look after me.
So this year they put me in a strange box and then in a big silver car which they called an airplane! Stayed in there a long time and slept a lot. When I got out of the box I was in Ireland and there was Dad waiting for me, telling me that this was my new home in Ireland with his daughter Jean.
Now I’ve a big yard to run in, two smaller dogs to play with and two big things called sheep to chat to. They think I’m a sheep too, because I have white fur like them. Jean is super kind and I love it here. Dad visits from the US — now amn’t I the lucky dog!
