The real royal scandal no one is talking about
KATY HARRINGTON
THERE are a lot of very important things going on on the world stage right now (Brexit and an impending British general election, the almost unwatchable reality TV show that is the Trump presidency, the ongoing sh*tstorm in Syria, and big scary issues with big scary Russia and China). So two entitled royals shouldn’t really be top of the news agenda, but they are.
Now before I unpack my feelings about dear old Harry and Meggles, let me just say I do think that at times the way the press discuss both Kate and Meghan — as if they are nothing more than dollies in dresses — is misogynistic (and in Meghan’s case, racist too).
But I also think members of the royal family are misogynists and racist... so, pot kettle.
I also have negligible sympathy when Harry and Meghan demand the press back off and let them live their lives without scrutiny. Because we need to keep an eye not only on them, but all their rellies and how they love to spend taxpayer money.
You see Harry and Meghan’s pleas for peace are hypocritical — they want us to turn a blind eye and leave them alone when they are hopping on private jets or partying with billionaires, but they desperately need the press and the public to watch on in awe when they cut ribbons, or sit at children’s bedsides in hospitals.
It would be surprisingly simple to achieve the privacy they say they crave but they won’t do it because it would mean giving up the lavish lifestyles they love. HRH Harry and poor miserable Meg aside, the one royal that is truly deserving of our attention is Prince Andrew, whose decade-long friendship with the unspeakably evil Jeffrey Epstein (even after he was convicted of trafficking women for sex) has barely been mentioned.
