The loves of my LIFE

The luxury textile designer chats to Chloe Brennan about her favourite people, places and things

Designer Aoife Mullane

The person

My Granny Mai, who is 82. She has the best attitude to life; nothing is ever a problem. She is the most positive, happy, enthusiastic person, and I hope one day I can be just like her.

The memory

Summers spent in Brittas Bay. As soon as school would finish up for summer, we would pack up the car and head down for three months of fun — I adored the freedom of the days spent by the seaside. I have such lovely childhood memories of it.

The moment of the day

I am a morning person. I work for myself, so I have always been conscious of creating structure in my day. I wake up early and start the day with a gym session. After that I usually grab a coffee, and I feel ready for the day ahead.

The song

Get Low by James Vincent McMorrow — he’s amazing and Irish!

The movie

Forrest Gump — it’s just one of those movies you can watch again and again.

The book

Everything I know About Love by Dolly Alderton. It had me laughing out loud.

The hero

My dad, John, is an inspiration to me. He has been such a driving influence behind my business, and he always believes in my capabilities — even if I am doubting myself !

The outfit

I love fashion. My go-to outfit for an event is usually a silky midi dress, or a skirt with one of my hand-printed silk kimonos over it. On weekends, I love my gym gear and runners.

The accessory

My gold coin necklace from Katie Mullally. I wear it every day, and it always gets compliments.

The gadget

My phone — I use social media a lot for my business, so my phone is usually pretty close by.

The pet hate

Negativity. I really believe in the power of positive thinking.

The vice

I am my own toughest critic.

The virtue

Chocolate! Or anything sweet.

The friend

My sister, Lauren. We have been best friends since birth. My mom said Lauren used to wake up and help with my night feeds. We are super close.

The drink

Gin & tonic, served in a goblet.

The holiday

I visited the Amalfi Coast in May of last year and fell in love with it. It’s so beautiful.

The hotel

The Powerscourt Hotel in Enniskerry, Co Wicklow — simply because the Espa Spa there is my dream way to spend a day.

The advice

Your dreams should scare you. I think you should always aim higher than you think you are capable of. After all, pressure can make diamonds.

The bar

Balfes at the Westbury. I love sitting outside and watching the hustle and bustle of the city.

The hobby

Pilates. I think it’s so beneficial, and I always sleep really well after it.

The part of my body

My smile. I was lucky that I never needed braces!

The beauty product

Without a doubt, it’s Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter — it has a gorgeous glow off it. I am obsessed!

The celebrity

Tom Hardy. I met him while interning in London one summer. He is just as divine in real life.

The smell

Molecule 01 perfume, by Escentric Molecules. It reminds me of my lovely mum.

The taste

Coffee from a coffee shop called Catalyst in Bray. Their oatmilk Americano is like no other!
