Senators threaten High Court action
■ A group of 10 senators has threatened to apply for a High Court judgment on the first sitting of the new Seanad without the Taoiseach’s 11 nominees. They have written to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar urging him to fix a date for the first sitting so legislation can be passed.
The political alliance consists of five Labour senators and five Independents, does not accept the upper house must wait for a government to be formed and appoint Taoiseach’s nominees before legally operating.
