PAINTINGS TO HELP WITH YOUR FEELINGS

-

National Gallery director Sean Rainbird’s recommendations on paintings to help with difficult feelings stoked by the lockdown during the global pandemic:

■ Paul Henry

“I would go and stand in front of a Paul Henry to see a landscape that people haven’t been able to see in a while, such as a lovely view of Connemara.”

■ The Gallery’s masterpieces

“For its peaceful complexity, go to Vermeer and then on to the ‘turbulence’ of the Caravaggio.”

■ Jack B Yeats

“We have a show coming up next year and his painting entitled Grief is one people will have a lot of time for after being separated from families and friends for so long. Many people weren’t able to get into care homes to visit people who have passed away and it had a real impact.”
