We’re all together until the bill arrives

■ Sir — For the duration of the pandemic we will, of course, be all in this together — until the financial reckoning arrives and a whopping multi-billion euro bill lands on our doorstep.

Excuses will then replace the upbeat rhetoric and middle Ireland will do as it always has done — pay for everything through stealth and direct taxes. Meanwhile, the fringes will badger whatever government is in power for extra cash.
