Common sense can sort this out

-

■ Sir — Dr Ciara Kelly last week stated she was more afraid of what lockdown was doing to us than Covid-19.

Thankfully she recovered from the virus, though, like most people who recover from illnesses, amnesia seemed to set in about how bad it was.

I agree with loosening the reins on our society and think our children need education and stimulation by mixing with their peers. The cruel way funerals are limited to 10 people in a church capable of holding hundreds seems ludicrous.

Even the disagreement about masks — most of Europe have it as mandatory to protect all who you come into contact with.

We have flattened the curve so let sectors which believe they can open without endangering customers or staff have a trial period, even for a week. Two metres or one metre is a farce — prolonged contact can be sorted by a bit of common sense with face coverings or if contact is too close step away or leave the area.

Mistakes have been made with a couple of groups, care homes and the meat industry. Let’s not lose any more through lack of interaction or ‘economic suicide’ as Dr Kelly puts it.
