National AI strategy ‘shaped by startups’
THE founders of Opening.io, the Dublin-based recruitment AI firm that was recently acquired by US recruitment platform iCIMS, were among a number of startup founders who have contributed to the national AI strategy, the Sunday Independent has learned.
Andreea Wade — a former head of product management at INM, the publisher of this newspaper — and her co-founder Adrian Mihai, along with counterparts from other Irish AI startups emphasised a number of measures and supports that are required to build on the sector’s strengths here. These range from the need to promote open data, create national research groups and map the AI ecosystem here, to the requirement to promote more diversity in the sector, draw up a code of ethics, align legislation and support ongoing upskilling.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation said that the strategy will be finalised and published later this year following approval once a new government has been formed.
“It will be in line with EU and OECD evolving direction,” she added.
