Investigation into Covid ‘party cluster’

An investigation by health officials has started into a cluster of Covid-19 cases among a large group of young people who partied in a rented house in Killarney, Co Kerry last weekend.

There were local reports that a group of young people from Dublin attended a large house party on the Saturday night. There were claims that a person in the group had tested positive for Covid-19 but this was not revealed to others until the Sunday.

At least one person underwent Covid-19 tests and at least one person tested positive, it is believed.

“A cluster of Covid-19 cases is currently being investigated among a group of 30-plus young people who travelled from different parts of the country to Killarney last week,” said public health consultant Dr Margaret O’Sullivan in a letter to doctors in the HSE South region.
