Enniskerry hotel and spa set to spring back into life

-

POWERSCOURT Springs, a hotel and spa in Enniskerry which closed in 2008, is set to reopen after the family behind the nearby Summerhill House Hotel acquired the site.

Ergo has learnt that the 38-acre gated estate at Coolakay in Enniskerry was bought by mother and daughter duo Adrienne Stewart — who also owns the nearby Rainforest Spa — and Lorraine Sweeney, former chairwoman of the Small Firms Association. They have spent €2.5m in total buying and developing the site.

Speaking with Ergo, Stewart said the 32bed hotel and spa, which has utilised Irish products, would hire around 20 people.

The resort is set to open on July 20 and will offer guests a full range of amenities. These include spa therapies, yoga, guided meditation, lifestyle coaching, pool, sauna, steam, eco-trail, forest bathing, tennis and healthy food.

“As Covid-19 movement restrictions are eased but before people feel comfortable to holiday abroad, we hope to encourage as many Irish people as possible to holiday at home to help stimulate the domestic economy, create jobs and, most importantly, prioritise their own personal wellness,” said Stewart.

Stewart admitted she considered freezing the plan to open due to the pandemic, but felt the offer would be welcomed by the public.

“We are not strangers to what some might consider pretty horrific timing. I entered the wellness market by opening Rainforest Spa in Enniskerry on April Fools’ Day 2009 just as the world economy crumbled, but there is nothing like a little blind belief in what you are doing to keep you moving forward,” she said.
