BURGERS

We knew something was up when Noma in Copenhagen came back after lockdown as a burger bar. The ‘best restaurant in the world’ according to some people, temporarily replaced its approximately €400 tasting menu with a €13 cheeseburger. A couple of things here — the first is, let’s go live in Copenhagen, because you’d struggle to get a €13 burger in any restaurant here, let alone a world-class one.

The second thing is, this makes sense. It’s not just that there will be less money around for extravagant tasting menus, although that is bound to come into play. It’s more that the waiter in your restaurant will probably be wearing a face mask and latex gloves for who knows how long — and that doesn’t feel like a classy night out.

Neither does it feel like a bad one, though. It’s more a casual, come-as-you-are kind of night, which seems to fit the ‘making the best of it’ vibe at the moment.

So get ready for burgers.
