EXPOSED FACE OF BULLY RAPIST n n

Three younger sisters targeted for sex abuse Brazen brute refuses to admit his sick crimes

In the only public comments she has made since the trial, Michelle Davis, one of the sisters abused, told this newspaper: “He is a bully right up until the end. By not pleading guilty he put myself and my sisters and their families through a very painful, emotional and difficult court case.

“He showed no remorse whatsoever — in fact, he sneered most of the time.”

Michelle, who thanked her partner, family members and friends for supporting her throughout her battle to get justice, also noted that it was put to her during the trial — on her predator brother’s instructions — that her mother had ‘never loved me’.

“It was untrue and cruel,” she said, “and it showed how low Martin was willing to go.”

Speaking after the pervert was jailed, Michelle and her sisters — who carried the pain of his abuse in silence for more than 40 years — labelled him a “vile human being, a bully, a monster and pure evil”.

The Central Criminal Court heard that Martin Davis (67) of Churchill, Clifden, Galway, was found guilty of one count of rape and eight counts of indecent assault on unknown dates between 1971 and 1981 at an address in Letterfrack in Co Galway. Davis has no previous convictions. At trial, Detective Garda Michael Griffin had told Roisin Lacey, SC, prosecuting, how in April 2018, Davis called to Clifden garda station to complain about an incident where he was verbally abused by the sister, who we are not naming, in a pub in Clifden. Davis wanted the matter noted but did not wish to make a complaint.

Gardai called to the home of his sister and she told them she had called him a “paedophile”.

She told the officers what she said was true and later made a statement.

Det Garda Griffin said two other sisters of Davis also made official complaints.

The court heard that Carmel Connelly was a younger sister of Davis.

When she was 10 years old and her parents were not at home, she was brought to her bedroom by Davis, who climbed on top of her and raped her. She was crying and he told her to be quiet. She told him to stop, but he did not.

The court heard that Davis was aged between 15 and 16 at that time. On a separate occasion, Davis again brought her to the bedroom and digitally penetrated her while he masturbated.

Another sister, Michelle Davis, described her brother as being a “bully to her”. When she was aged seven, she saw Davis’s car pulling up outside their house. She ran and hid behind a door.

SPITE

Davis saw her and dragged her to a back kitchen, where he removed her underwear and inserted his penis into her anus. She screamed with pain.

Davis put his hand over her mouth to stop her screams. He was aged 23 at the time. On other occasions, he would get her to touch his penis, the court heard.

The trial heard the unnamed third sister, who was six years younger than Davis, was abused when she was nine years old.

The abuse began with tickling games, and then Davis told her it was her turn and to rub his penis. He would also touch her genital area.

Davis was arrested and interviewed in September 2018. He denied all charges of rape and indecent assault. He told gardai that his sisters were motivated by spite as they had been excluded from their mother’s will.
