IT’S ALL IN THE JEANS

Denim is everywhere this season so choose your perfect colour and dress it up or down

-

DONNING denim is no longer as simple as choosing boyfriend, skinny or bootcut jeans. From baseball caps to cowboy boots, everyone’s favourite fabric is enjoying a top-to-toe takeover this season.

And why not? It’s cool, effortless, mostly affordable, and goes with absolutely everything in your wardrobe.

Enter your denim era in a chic midi skirt worn with a slouchy shirt and rolled-up sleeves, perfect for lazy spring days.

Or go ‘one and done’ in a form-fitting or more relaxed denim jumpsuit or playsuit, dolled up with on-trend ’90s strappy sandals or down with boxfresh trainers.

Either way, jeans have come a long way since being patented by Levi Strauss in 1873, and even further since starting life as sturdy work trousers in the French city of Nimes, where ‘de Nimes’ gets its name, back in the 17th century.

Originally indigo, to better hide dirt, four centuries of classic blue — whether dark or light wash — is still going strong for spring 2024.

But there’ll be no hiding grease stains on the gorgeous vintage cream, grey or dusty pink options also trending right now.

On that note, despite its tough image, denim should be cleaned with care: use cold water, a gentle cycle and mild detergent to avoid shrinking and fading, or better yet, spot clean the item if you can.

In the meantime, from a simple scrunchie to full-on Canadian tuxedo, check out these jean-ius ways to get the look.
