ASHLEY SAYS GOODBYE TO HER FRODO

- BY EDDIE ROWLEY

AMERICAN country singer Ashley Campbell has expressed her gratitude to the Irish people who came to her aid when her dog Frodo suffered a stroke before her Dublin show last Sunday.

Sadly, the miniature schnauzer, who was well known to her fans on social media and at Ashley’s live shows with her partner Thor Jensen where he was always on stage with them — there were even Frodo T-shirts at the gigs—- had to be put to sleep later that night.

Ashley (37) is a daughter of the late US country music icon Glen Campbell.

INSTINCT

Frodo, who had been in Ashley’s life for more than a decade since he was four months old, became very unwell while the couple were doing their pre-show sound check at The Workman’s Cellar.

“I took him for a little bit of a walk in Temple Bar and he chased a pigeon,” Ashley says. “It was so sweet that even though he was clearly not feeling well his instinct kicked in and he went for the pigeon. When I went back to sound check he lay down.... he went into a seizure, which we now know was a stroke.

“Jeremiah at The Workman’s Cellar helped us to call a 24-hour vet and then got his car and was so kind to bring us to the vet. The vet gave him a sedative to relax his body, and antibiotics and a steroid shot. Frodo slept in the venue’s green room when we went out to perform, and the venue had this very sweet young woman named Erin who sat with him to keep him company and make sure nothing happened. She was a total gem to do that for us.

“Frodo still couldn’t stand or come out of it and so when the vet called he recommended that we bring him in and stop his suffering. Frodo was my first dog, my first little baby.”
