RUDDY HELL! ...IS THAT A HOLLYWOOD A-LISTER?

- BY EUGENE MASTERSON

‘I’ve worked on the script for years... now Paul Rudd is in my kitchen’

HOLLYWOOD star Paul Rudd is pictured here for the first time on location of his new film in Ireland.

Ant Man sensation Rudd is starring as a wedding singer in the movie Power Ballad.

He is seen here this week taking part in several scenes in Powerscourt, Co. Wicklow, including bringing his band around in a van.

Accompanying him on the set here as part of the band was Donegal-born actor Keith McErlean, best known for playing Barry Boland in Bachelor’s Walk and Con Doyle in Kin.

Power Ballad is being directed by Dubliner John Carney, who was previously responsible for Sing Street.

McErlean has a connection to Carney going back to that 2016 film, as he played teenage student Barry’s father in the musical flick

Also in Rudd’s band and who were snapped with the star this week were actors Paul Reid (Raw, Rebellion, Vikings) and Peter McDonald (This Town, Dublin Murders, The Batman).

Rudd and other members of the cast spent a few days last week filming at Kilruddery House in Co. Wicklow, and ventured from Powerscourt to Kimmage in Dublin for the latter part of this week.

Nick Jonas also stars in the film as a rock singer, but he is on a concert tour on the far side of the Atlantic right now with his two siblings in the Jonas Brothers.

Jonas was recently pictured in Dublin Italian restaurant Rosa Madre.

The Jumanji and Welcome To The Jungle star posed for a snap with staff there a few weeks ago.

Carney’s new film will chart the story of a wedding singer (Rudd), a rock star (Jonas), and the song that comes between them.

Rudd (55) has recently been promoting his new film Ghostbusters — Frozen Empire, and revealed during its publicity campaign that he loves Ireland so much he has built his own Irish bar in his home in America.

The Marvel star previously opened up about how Ireland is his “favourite place on earth” and how he fell in love with the country when coming here as a youngster with his father.

He said he tried to come to Ireland whenever he could and revealed his father had hoped to retire in Kinsale, Co. Cork, bud died from cancer in 2008.

As a tribute his family scattered some of his ashes in favourite places they visited down through the years, including counties Kerry, Cork and Sligo.

ENTHUSIAST

Rudd disclosed his father was a Titanic fan and would take people on tours to learn about its history, including to Cobh, Co. Cork, which was the last port it sailed from.

“My dad was a Titanic enthusiast and that’s how he made his living, taking groups of people across the country, across the world really, on these Titanic historical tours,” he said on Today FM’s Ian Dempsey radio show earlier this year.

“Obviously with Titanic there’s a lot of history in Ireland but he went there many years ago and fell in love with Ireland and wanted to retire there.”

Carney has written the movie script alongside Peter McDonald (The Bachelor Weekend), and it’s due to be unveiled at the upcoming Cannes film festival.

“I’m delighted to be working with so many great people,” Carney told Deadline.

“I’ve been working on this script with my buddy Peter for years, and now Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas are in my kitchen.”
