As yet another Bennifer split looms, we look at the most on-off romances in showbiz

ARE they or aren’t they? Our favourite on/off celebrity couple Bennifer looks like it is on the rocks yet again, with widespread reports that Ben has had enough.

Obviously, these are as yet unconfirmed rumours but, if true, the pair will officially become the most prevalent on/off yo-yo couple of all time.

They dated, they got engaged, they broke up and they spent nearly two decades apart raising families and getting married to completely different people.

Then a few years ago they rekindled their love and hooked up again and all was OK with the world once again.

But now the superstars look to be off again, and some insiders are claiming it is “for real this time”.

They now have the unwanted title of being the world’s most onand-off celebrity couple. Here are the pretenders to their throne…

JUSTIN BIEBER AND SELENA GOMEZ

Oh, what could have been? Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were the celebrity couple of millennials’ dreams. Their relationship was off and on for years in the 2010s, with their final break-up happening in 2018. After that, Justin got back together with his other on-again, off-again girlfriend, Hailey Baldwin, and the two got married after a brief engagement and are now expecting their first child together.

MILEY CYRUS AND LIAM HEMSWORTH

Miley and Liam first met on the set of The Last Song, and their subsequent relationship went through as many highs and lows as the actual movie itself. After breaking up and getting back together multiple times, the couple tied the knot, but they split after less than a year of marriage.

THE WEEKND AND BELLA HADID

The Weeknd and Bella Hadid were on and off again for a solid four years at the end of the 2010s. Hints left in The Weeknd’s music, coupled with statements from Bella and her mother, Yolanda Hadid, have allowed fans to put together the puzzle of their relationship to some extent. Still, we’ll likely never have the whole picture.

ROBERT WAGNER AND NATALIE WOOD

On-again, off-again relationships are nothing new. Old Hollywood stars Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood had an on-off romance that spanned the 50s, 60s and early 70s. The couple stayed married the second time until Wood died in 1981. During their second marriage, they had one child together.

ELIZABETH TAYLOR AND RICHARD BURTON

While Wagner and Wood were having their on-again, off-again romance, so were Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The couple famously met on the set of Cleopatra and engaged in an affair that ended both of their marriages. They wed in 1964, divorced in 1974, married again in 1975, and divorced again in 1976. Madness.

TRAVIS SCOTT AND KYLIE JENNER

Travis and Kylie’s relationship was, and is, hard to track. The two broke up and got back together while also welcoming two children, and the exact timeline of events is a little, eh, fuzzy. Eventually, the couple called it quits for good, but they are on good terms as co-parents.

KOURTNEY KARDASHIAN AND SCOTT DISICK

The Kardashian-Jenner clan has had plenty of on-again, offagain relationships, but Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick were the most notorious couple. The two seemed to be star-crossed lovers, but plenty of fans had hoped that they would work out in the end. Ultimately, the couple parted ways a final time, and Kardashian went on to marry Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. And we get to learn it all through the ‘traditional’ medium of reality TV.

OZZY AND SHARON OSBOURNE

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are notable people and a notable couple for many reasons, one of which is their longtime relationship. But these two have been on and off in the past. They’ve staved off rumours of divorce, but they did separate for a while in 2016 before reuniting and renewing their vows.

MEGAN FOX AND BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN

OK, here we go…Fox and Green’s on-again relationship included two engagements before a marriage. Then, their off-relationship again included two divorce filings before they split for good. These days, Fox is on the arm of some singer called Machine Gun Kelly and Green is engaged to dancer Sharna Burgess. So, I am guessing they are officially and permanently ‘off’.

KATY PERRY AND ORLANDO BLOOM

We genuinely did’t think this pair would end up together but Perry and Bloom have proved us wrong. They first started dating in 2016, but it was a short-lived relationship. However, they stayed on good terms and, just a couple of years later, they were back on. The two have been together ever since and are currently engaged. They also have a child together, a daughter named Daisy.

PRINCE WILLIAM AND KATE MIDDLETON

The royals may seem rock solid nowadays but at the start of their relationship they were definitely more of an on-off couple. After initially meeting in 2001 and continually facing dating rumours throughout the next several years, the couple got together and broke things off before getting back together again and staying together since. Now, they’re one of the most famous couples on the planet.

PAMELA ANDERSON AND TOMMY LEE

Sex tapes, face licking, domestic disputes, jail time, divorce filings. It’s plain to see why Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee’s relationship was turned into a Disney+ miniseries. Explaining the ins and outs of their marriage would take far too long.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AND JESSICA BIEL

Timberlake and Biel have been plagued by separation rumours throughout their relationship. Some of those were true, though. After a few years of dating, the couple split in 2011. That same year, they got back together, and by the next year, they were married. Awww.

JUDE LAW AND SIENNA MILLER

Jude Law and Sienna Miller were married in the mid-2000s, but their relationship notoriously blew up after Law had an affair with the couple’s nanny. A few years later, the duo gave their relationship another chance but, ultimately, it didn’t work out and both went on to have relationships with other people.
