Trevor’s new version of The Garden Song is bloomin’ great

IRISH STAR HAS JUST RELEASED A FRESH VERSION OF CLASSIC TUNE

POPULAR Irish country music singer Trevor Moyles is set for a summer hit with his latest release, a cover The Garden Song.

Lots of Irish people will know this American folk classic from the Makem & Clancy version, but it has been recorded by many other artists through the decades — everyone from Peter, Paul and Mary to John Denver, Pete Seeger…and even The Muppets!

Also a popular children’s song, it was written in 1975 by American singer-songwriter David Mallett. Trevor gives the song a fresh outing as he puts his own stamp on it.

A native of Crossmolina, Co. Mayo — home to well-known entertainers including Marc Roberts — Trevor comes from a musical family.

His brothers are Jason and Stuart — and their first cousin is fellow country music star Gerry Guthrie.

Trevor toured around Ireland and the UK with Jason and Stuart in their early days, and the brothers built up a big following before they branched out into solo careers.

He credits his aunt Theresa with starting him off in music when she gave him a present of his first guitar. He taught himself to play it after some early tuition from a neighbour in Crossmolina.

By the age of 14, Trevor was gaining experience singing and playing in front of people in the local pubs with his older brother Jason.

When Stuart was old enough to join them, he completed the group on drums and vocals. Soon they were in demand for weddings as a country music band.

He says that Irish country stars such as Declan Nerney, Mick Flavin and Eamon McCann were a huge influence on him during his formative years.

Trevor remembers going to see them in Hiney’s of Crossmolina.

Getting to watch his favourite Irish singers and musicians performing in his home town during those times were “the best nights”, Trevor says.

The three brothers are very close and Trevor says they have all supported each other in the music business along the way.

Trevor enjoys a very successful career on the social dancing scene around Ireland and he regularly performs as a guest artist at festivals and in concert with other top artists.
