Hour of Code introduction to mystery of code at DkIT
Ever wondered how Mark Zuckerberg came up with Facebook? Or how Steve Jobs helped Apple become a global empire? Or how Ada Lovelace became known as the founder of scientific computing? Or how does a website or a smart phone app work?
Well, now’s your chance. The Hour of Code (hourofcode. com) is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics.
The initiative is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Last year over 100 million people took part in the Hour of Code, making it the largest learning event in history!
DkIT played its part in last year’s historic event, and will once again host an Hour of Code session on its campus in early December.
Anyone can take part, including you! This Saturday, December 12, the Department of Computing & Mathematics in DkIT in conjunction with our local CoderDojo and the DkIT ACM Student Chapter are joining in what we hope will be the latest edition of the largest learning event in history. All are welcome to take part and no computing experience is necesary!
Anyone under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult or guardian – who may also join in with our Hour of Code! Places are limited to 200 coders and will be filled on a first come, first served basis. All participants must book a place.
