Shock at Peter’s death

There was widespread sadness on Monday evening at the news of the death of well-known and respected businessma­n, Peter Conlon (pictured), who died at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda following a short illness.

Mr Conlon, who was in his sixties, set up Conlon’s Food Hall in 1984 at Patrick Street and later moved the flagship premises to Church Street.

Quality and care in food preparatio­n and service were at the core of the Mr Conlon’s philosophy and the business motto is ‘ Our family looking after yours since 1984’. In 2007, Conlon’s Food Hall opened at the Longwalk Shopping Centre and last year, they opened a third premises at the Avenue Centre.

Mr Conlon was also a generous supporter of a number of local charities, particular­ly the Dundalk Parents and Friends of the Intellectu­ally Disabled, for whom he helped raised money and notably, in 2013, stepped in to provide lowcost high quality meals to day care clients at St John of God in Drumcar after officials announced plans to stop serving hot food. He also supported the Vita charity, among many others.

Mr Conlon is survived by Margaret (née Kettle), children Martin, Christophe­r, Gareth, Deborah and Rachael, brother Jimmy and sister Geraldine. Reposing at his residence from 11am tomorrow, Wednesday until 9pm. Removal takes place on Thursday morning to the Church of Mary Mother of Mercy, Inniskeen arriving for 11am Funeral Mass burial afterwards in St Mary’s Cemetery.

The family has asked for donations in lieu of flowers if desired, to Family and Friends of St John of God, Drumcar.
