Reward for return of computers

-

Mechanical diagnostic computers, worth tens of thousands of euro, have been stolen during a burglary at a Dundalk garage, prompting the owners and Gardai to appeal for their return.

A reward of €2,000 is being offered by Kevin O’Callaghan Mercedes Specialised Mechanics, based at the Coes Road Industrial Estate, after four computers, used for mechanical diagnostics, were stolen during a burglary in the early hours of Monday morning.

Gardai said one of the devices is worth in excess of €20,000 and the incident happened between 1.30am and 9.30am. The device stolen include the following brands: Launch, Snap Onn, Omiscan and Auto Logic’.

Because the computer equipment is specially set up for use in particular garages and can be remotely disabled by the software company, it is useless to a third party.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the computers can contact the mechanics at 086 2065534 or 042 9332777. Dundalk Gardai can be contacted at 042 9388400 or through the Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.

Meanwhile, Dundalk Gardai are also investigating a number of thefts from cars, including one which happened on Monday morning as a woman was leaving her trolley back after shopping at Lidl on the Avenue Road.

A man who was standing beside her car stole her handbag from the front seat and ran away.

The previous evening at around 8.30pm a mobile phone was stolen from a car parked at Broughton Street. And a small amount of cash was stolen from a house at Greenacres during a burglary between 3pm and 5.45pm on Monday evening.

Entry was gained through the back door and two bedrooms were ransacked.
