DKIT was a hive of activity last Tuesday night as 52 eager nominees waited to learn their Lennon Cup All Star fate.

The nominees were first treated to the use of the colleges state of the art strength and conditioning facilities at the old JJB complex with Shane Lennon, Oisin McConville and Eugene McEnteggart putting them through their paces at the DkIT Sport High Performance Unit

52 players were nominated overall from 10 Post Primary schools for their performances in the coveted Lennon Cup and while their could only be 15 winners all of the nominees were presented with DkIT socks and shorts.

And a special guest showed up on the night, with former double Lennon Cup All-Star and AFL pro Ciaran Byrne helping to make the presentations to the winning team, all of whom received specially commissioned DkIT jerseys.

DkIT President Ann Campbell welcomed the huge crowd, which was also addressed by John Savage, The Argus/Drogheda Independent, Alan Craven, Louth Colleges Secretary, and Des Halpenny, Louth County Board chairman.

DkIT coach and All-Ireland winner Oisin McConville helped Shane Lennon and Ciaran Byrne make the presentations, while current DkIT students and Louth panellists Gerard McSorley and Dean Maguire revealed the winning team.

All in all the awards proved another huge success story for DkIT, Louth GAA and the Argus / Drogheda Independent, with over 2,000 online votes cast.

A memorable couple of nights was capped off the following night when the winning team, mentored by former Louth greats Paddy Keenan and JP Rooney, took on a Louth Colleges selection coached by Louth minor manager Wayne Kierans.
