Bay come out on wrong side of a seasonal goal-feast

-

BAY 4 KELLS 8

A bad day at the office for Bay as they fell to their first home defeat in the league this season.

They started on fire, playing well and creating scoring opportunities. Anton Webb combined well with Mark Larkin to craft the opener, a fine strike from the edge of the area by Larkin and they seemed to be on their way to victory.

But Kells had other ideas and were level 10 minutes later. Bay failed to deal with a corner at the near post and it was squeezed into the home net and moments later Kells went ahead.

A punt into the box wasn’t dealt with by the home defence and the Kells’ speedy striker took full advantage of hesitation to make it 2-1.

The same striker proved to be a handful and he grabbed his side’s third goal. He broke Bay’s intended offside trap to go one on one with ‘keeper Kevin Mullen and slotted the ball past him.

With only 15 minutes on the clock Bay were shell shocked but a chance to get back into the game arose on the 20the minute mark. Winger Kevin Scollon was hauled down in the box and Anon Webb made no mistake from the spot.

With 15 minutes remaining in the half came the turning point in the game. The

Kells striker went past goal- keeper Mullen and tried to slot the ball home from a tight angle.

Defender Paddy Kehoe intercepted the ball right at the post but was adjudged to have handled it to give a penalty to Kells. To add insult to injury Kehoe was shown a red card which seemed very harsh.

Kells converted the penalty and Bay were in disarray. Kells scored again with a tap in to make it 5-2 and to compound matters a clumsy challenge just inside the area gave Kells their second penalty of the game. Again they made no mistake from the spot to leave it 6-2 at the break.

The second half produced few chances as Kells took their foot off the gas and Bay tried to contain them.

Mark Larkin’s quick thinking gave Bay their third goal as he struck a free kick with the Kells ‘keeper still setting up his wall.

But Kells cancelled this goal out with an audacious lob from 30yrds.

Anton Webb cut the deficit once more with a fine solo effort turning the defence inside out in their 18 yard box before unleashing a shot into the top corner.

But yet again Kells hit back in the dying seconds to nab their eight goal and

round off a miserable night for Bay who head into the Christmas break

six points of the top with the leaders the vistors on January 6th in a must win game.
