THERE was a tremendous finale to the Winter League as the overall winner and all three sectional categories were all very much in the melting pot going into the last week of play. The weather throughout the six weeks of competition was fantastic and stayed that way on the last day of play. The scoring for the 12 holes over a shortened course had been terrific throughout and proved even more spectacular on the final cards. James Coburn and Raymond Kelly had been head to head for the duration of the competition for the overall winner prize. Only one point in it at the end as Raymond despite back to back weekly winning scores of 34,32,32 and 31 to total 163 was beaten by James who had a final day 33 for the fourth time in 6 weeks to go with another 32 for a winning total of 164.

The 0-8 section had Benny Tierney and Paul Kelly level on points going into the last day with Benny returning a winning 32 points for a total of 149. Third placed Paddy Malone pounced on the 28 from Paul to overtake him on the best 5 cards by a single point 146 to 145

The 9-14 section house the runaway overall duo so Raymond Kelly won the category with Seamus McCoy as runner-up and Shane Toale finishing third. The 15-19 section was a ding dong affair between Column Quinn and Noel Magill but this time round the Dundalk taxi driver was confined to the back seat as Column took the honours. Despit being a couple of rounds shy new member Kevin Haughey can be delighted with his third place showing.
