Defibrillator now available to public at Martin’s of Riverstown

- Members of Cooley Peninsula CFR donating the defibrillator to John at Martin’s Pub.

THE Cooley Peninsula Cardiac First Responders recently donated an external AED (defibrillator) to John at Martin’s Pub in Rivertown for use by the general public twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week.

The money for the AED was donated by the people of the Cooley Peninsula. The Cooley Peninsula Cardiac First Responders hope to donate a similar gift to the community of Omeath in next year.

This voluntary group has gone from strength to strength, providing a much needed service in an area where ambulance response times can be an issue.

The scheme works alongside the National Ambulance Service, with local volunteer Cardiac First Responders attending to patients who have called 999/112 with symptoms of chest pains, cardiac arrest, stroke or choking, with an AED.

All volunteers receive training in first aid and CPR and provide cover in an area on the peninsulat stretching from Lordship to Omeath, including Greenore, Carlingford, Grange, Glenmore, Riverstown, Bohoer, Jenkinstown, Whitestown, Rathcor, and all surrounding areas. The group would like to express our gratitude to all volunteers both past and present as their hard work to date is greatly appreciated.

They are also grateful to all those who have contributed to the fund-raising efforts necessary to keep the scheme running.

They wish all volunteers and supporters a Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year.
