DUNDALK gardai have renewed warnings to motorists about vehicles parked at adhoc ‘car sharing’ spots along the M1.

Thieves have been targetting these locations for some time, and over the last week a van was broken into with over €1,200 in tools stolen.

Gardai confirmed the vehicle had been parked at Newtownbalregan, just off the M1 from 7.15am until 5pm on March 6th.

The van had been broken into during the day, and a series of tools stolen including a DeW alt cordless angle grinder, and a Dewalt cordless hammer drill, both yellow in colour. Also stolen were a radio and a Hitachi skills saw.

Gardai have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area that day to contact them on 042 93 88400.

Meanwhile, gardai uncovered three knives and a hammer in a vehicle during a stop and search at Roden Place on March 8th.

A small amount of herbal cannabis was also found during the search.

Gardai were called to an incident on the DkIT campus on March 5th, when a ‘altercation’ was reported to have broken out between a group of males.

A 23 year old was searched and found to be in possession of a hammer.

Dundalki gardai are also investigating two alleged assaults along Park Street over the last week.

A woman was reported to have received facial injuries after being struck with a glass in the early hours of Friday morning last.

The woman was reported to have suffered a fractured cheek bone and black eye after being struck with a pint glass.

Meanwhile, a 19 year old male was found lying on the ground on Park Street with cuts and bleeding from his face, after he was allegedly punched in the mouth.

Gardai are also investigating break ins to cars parked along St. Mary’s Road over the last week. In one incident a purse was stolen from the front seat of a car, and in a second incident, a pair of designer Ray Ban sunglasses were stolen.
