Marie’s country night raises an incredible €4,400 for hospice

-

SOME boot-scootin, a little grape vining and perhaps a tush-push or two went into raising an incredible €4,400 for Ardee Hospice recently!

The money was raised from a fantastic country music social dance evening, held in Muldoon’s on May 24th and organiser Marie McKenny was delighted to hand over the massive cheque to the hospice last week.

And such was the popularity of the charity night, the venue has extended the event for the summer months!

“We had an absolutely brilliant night and I have to thank everyone who turned up and supported the cause so generously,” said Marie.

“It was very emotional to see it all coming together, and I did get a little help from others selling tickets and things, but I did the rest by myself, and was delighted that nothing went wrong!”

In fact, everything went right, with hundreds turning up to hear Matt Leavy, and dance to country tunes all night.

“I love country music and there isn’t anything in Ardee for that, so I decided I would kill two birds with one stone, and raise money while having a night out,” explains Marie.

“And then everyone kept asking me whether there would be another one, so we have six weeks of social dancing with top singers and bands like Eddie Quinn, Ray Murtagh and Brendan Jermyn.

Marie chose to raise money for the hospice as her brother-in-law is terminally ill.

“The hospice does amazing work and is always so low on money, so they always need events like this to raise funds,” adds Marie, who works part time in a doctor’s surgery.

“The next social dancing nights have no cover charge and are on Thursday nights from 9pm to midnight, so I’m glad my good idea is sticking around for people to enjoy.”
