Volunteers wanted for Fleadh
IRELAND’S biggest music festival is coming to Drogheda this summer an anyone who would like to get involved through volunteering is invited to an information evening taking place on Wednesday 4th of July at 6pm in the Oriel Centre, Dundalk Gaol.
With lots of traditional musicians from Dundalk and north Louth set to play during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2018, this is a great opportunity for local people to involved in the world’s largest celebration of Irish traditional music and culture.
Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann’s Volunteer programme will run throughout the eight day festival from 12th to 19th August. The programme, which is coordinated by Louth Volunteer Centre and backed by Coca- Cola International Services, invites applications from anyone interested in getting
The coming of ‘ The Fleadh’ to County Louth is an enormous opportunity for the whole county and Louth Volunteer Centre are urging people from all across Louth to take the opportunity to be part of this fantastic festival.
Over 1,000 volunteers will be required to help stage this year’s Fleadh and ensure the 400,000 visitors expected to descend on the area this August have a memorable and enjoyable experience of our county.
Commenting on the Volunteer Programme, Gráinne Berrill, Manager of the Louth Volunteer Centre said; ‘Volunteering has a profoundly positive impact on people and their local communities. It is our aim that through the Fleadh Volunteer Programme, and with the backing of Coca- Cola International Services who are passionate about making a positive difference in our local communities, that the people of County Louth and the surrounding region come together as a community to build a world class event which showcases the region as a must-visit destination.

Becoming a Fleadh Volunteer offers participants an opportunity to build new friendships, develop new skills and play an integral role in the success of the biggest festival of Irish culture in the world.’
Volunteers will get a chance to experience the unique atmosphere of the Fleadh and, depending on their role, the possible opportunity listen to the best of Irish traditional music be it in the competitions or concerts.
They will meet with visitors from around Ireland and further afield and help The Wee County extend a ‘Cead Mile Failte’ to all.
Applications are now open to people aged 15 years and older – there is no upper limit! Volunteer shifts vary in length from 4 – 8 hours and all volunteers must attend mandatory training, which is scheduled for July and August, in advance of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann.
