Gardai to look into bus drop off at Mulholland Ave.

- BY OLIVIA RYAN

Gardai are set to review the ongoing use of Mulholland Avenue as a drop off point for concert goers getting off buses after travelling to and from out of town events.

Concerns by residents of the residential area were aired at the recent Joint Policing Committee in Dundalk.

Cllr. Anne Campbell raised the issue at the meeting, saying that she had been contacted by residents of the area, regarding ‘concert-going buses pulling up and collecting people or, in the early hours of the morning, dropping people off, often with drink in them, in this residential street.’

‘It has been reported to me that some of the concert goers who arrive in the early hours hang around, making noise etc and wakening residents.’

Councillor Campbell wrote to the garda Superintendent Gerry Curley to express her concerns as it emerged that there was ‘no permission for concert buses to use this street as a pick-up/ drop-off point.’

She outlined that the designated location for such bus pick and drop off is outside St Patrick’s Cathedral.

‘I have raised this issue at the recent JPC meeting in Dundalk and again, by follow-up email with Superintendent Curley.

The latest incident happened on Saturday June 30, when buses pulled up at 7.30am and there was a lot of noise on the street from those waiting to be picked up after the bus left.’

Residents of the area were subjected to a lot of early morning noise as concert goers remained in the area for some time.

Cllr Campbell told the Argus that she was ‘pleased to have received a response from the gardai’, who are looking into the matter.
