Illegal tyre dumping still posing problems in north Louth area

The Argus - - NEWS -

THE illegal dumping of large quantities of tyres in remote areas of north Louth is still posing a problem for gardai and Louth County Council, the recent meeting of the Dundalk Joint Policing Committee heard.

The issue was raised by Sinn Fein Cllr Antoin Watters who referred to yet another incident which had taken place in recent weeks.

This was on top of several high profile incidents during the summer, where huge quantities of old tyres were dumped at scenic locations and forestries along the border in north Louth and south Armagh.

In another incident, tyres were dumped just off the main Dublin to Belfast road near Carrickarnon.

He said it was big problem in rural areas and wanted to know what the gardai were doing about it. Chief Supt Christy Mangan said that the problem was that the gardai were getting reports after the dumping had taken place but were not getting any intelligence beforehand.
