Sweet Virginia sink Celtic

-

VIRGINIA put a dent in Redeemer’s title ambitions in the second division, inflicting their first defeat of the campaign after a100 per cent start to the campaign in their first four matches.

Still it is in their own hands if they win their last two games they can lift the crown as they share currently the top spot with neighbours Woodview Celtic.

The journey to Cavan on Sunday was asking a lot of Redeemer after only a few days earlier travelling to Bailieboro, and returning with a narrow 3-2 win.

Plus they only went with 12 players, and didn’t perform to a level expected against a side sitting in the bottom half of the table , with one win from the four games they had played.

But the defining point in the game was the sending off of Kurt Murphy in the second-half when he re-acted to a bad tackle.

Virginia took the lead over the hour mark with at an attempt by Redeemer to play offside backfiring

They then sought to force an equaliser and Virginia capitalized on a scramble in the visitors’ box to notch a second goal in the closing quarter of an hour to seal the points.

Redeemer: Kyle Murphy, Andy McDermott, Caolan Carroll, Paul Gartland, Niall Kelly, Dean McConnell, Thomas Conway, Kevin McCormack, Ryan Carroll (Mark Lee), Barry Carr, Kurt Murphy.

Kevin McCormack bagged a brace, and Dean McConnell also netted as Redeemer established a 3-1 lead in the mid week fixture. BAILIEBORO cut the deficit to the minimum in the second-half, but Redeemer held out to make it four wins from four outings.
