WITCHES, zombies, super heroes and princesses turned out to lend their support for the Zoe Murphy Appeal at the Halloween fancy dress day in Scoil Mhuire na nGael, Bay Estate on Friday.
Pupils from Colaiste Ris had already held a fundraising day for the appeal to raise the money needed so that two and a half year old Zoe, who has cerebral palsy, can travel to the United States for life altering surgery next year.
Her parents Eamon Murphy and Lynda Bannon launched the appeal after learning that Zoe could benefit greatly from pioneering surgery carried out by Dr T S Parks, a paediatric neurosurgeon at Saint Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri.
They hope that the surgery will enable their daughter to walk independently and that it will bring an end to the muscle spasms and cramps which cause her to wake up crying during the night.
Thanks to their refusal to accept that Zoe wouldn’t be able to walk or talk, their daughter has made significant progress and has learned to speak and walk with the aid of a walker. They hope that the surgery will allow her develop her full potential.
There has been a magnificent response to their appeal, with local businesses, shops, clubs and Dundalk FC getting behind their efforts, organising their own events and accepting collection boxes.
A specially designed poster featuring a selection of past Dundalk FC jerseys is on sale from the club, the County Museum, and Goldstar Jewellers, priced €10.
The next event is a table quiz which takes place on Friday in The Lisdoo
